When a light beam strikes a material, some light is transmitted, some reflected, and the rest is absorbed. Light transmission depends on the reflectance at both surfaces of the material and the absorption of light into the material.
Each sheet color’s light transmission decreases with an increase in thickness. The percentage of light transmission for all thicknesses of a given translucent or transparent color other than white is the same. This is accomplished by adjusting the colorant concentration according to sheet thickness.
